• The final episode with the famous trio was filmed in Zimbabwe.
  • Hammond insists a key reason why they’ve been so successful is that they are car geeks.
  • Amazon hasn’t said who will host future iterations of The Grand Tour.

The last episode of The Grand Tour is just days away from launching on Amazon Prime. Or, at least, that’s what we thought. While it’s true that The Grand Tour starring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May will be no more, the show will continue, albeit with new presenters.

None other than Richard Hammond himself made the revelation while speaking about the final special that he stars in alongside Clarkson and May. He doesn’t know who will be recruited to fill their shoes but said it’s important they are car geeks.

“It will be carrying on,” he said, confirming earlier reports. “The Grand Tour continues. We’re stepping away as the hosts, but Prime will be continuing it. So I can’t wait to sit on my own chair and watch somebody else do it. That’s amazing. If you’re making any show that at its heart has a subject, whether it’s cooking, dancing or cars, the hosts, the primary makers of it, have to have that passion in their heart. And we always did.”

During his interview with Metro, Hammond added that Amazon can speak with the trio about how to shape the next iteration of The Grand Tour if they choose, but said it’s not up to them to decide how the show should carry on.

“That’s for people who are making it to decide. We’ll always be on hand to talk if they want to talk to us, absolutely,” Hammond said. “But it’s not for us to shape it anymore. We’re stepping away. We made the show that we made. That show was what you get if you put us forward together and the brilliant team around us. But there’ll be a different team doing a different show, and they’ll devise the show that fits them.”

The final episode starring the Clarkson, Hammond and May will see them travel across Zimbabwe in a Lancia Montecarlo, a Triumph Stag, and a Ford Capri.
