The Toyota Hilux Champ is known for its bare-bones character as much as for its versatile nature, making it a great contestant for all kinds of conversions. Thai-based company Carryboy offers a full-spec motorhome conversion for camping enthusiasts that want a mobile hotel room on the back of their truck.
The motorhome was previewed during the Hilux Champ launch in Thailand last year, and is now being offered for sale. It is based on the long-wheelbase chassis cab version of the Hilux Champ, ensuring better integration and more interior space compared to the “slide-in” pickup conversions. The same module is compatible with the Toyota Hilux and the Mitsubishi Triton midsize pickups.

According to Carryboy, the motorhome can sleep up to six people, although it looks more suitable for a family of four. The rear box has a comfortable living room area that can be converted into a berth, and an overhead sleeping area with a skyview window.
At the back, there is a small bathroom with a toilet and hot water shower, thanks to a 100 lt (26 gallon) fresh water tank. Amenities include a dining table, hidden LED lighting, a large number of storage compartments, window blinds, an 80 lt fridge, kitchen appliances, a sink, a 32-inch TV, and an A/C unit. On the outside, the company added electric side steps for easier access, an electric awning for shade, and an optional slide-out kitchen.

The standard battery of the motorhome has a capacity of 9,600 Wh, but can be upgraded to 19,200 Wh or 28,800 Wh for those who want to stay off-grid for longer. Furthermore, a solar rooftop can extend the life of the battery on sunny days.
Under the hood lies the stock 2.4-liter diesel powertrain, generating 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS) and 343 Nm (253 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an automatic gearbox, as with all Hilux Champ variants currently available in Thailand. Carryboy offers the option of upgrading the suspension with new shock absorbers, increasing the truck’s ground clearance.
Pricing for the Toyota Hilux Champ Motorhome by Carryboy ranges between ฿1,997,000-2,389,500 ($58,500-70,000) depending on the options. Predictably, this is much more expensive than the standard version of the truck which starts from as low as ฿459,000 ($13,500) in Thailand.
For those who want something cheaper, the company offers the Touring Package conversion. This one costs ฿450,000-550,000 ($13,000-16,000) for the rear module plus an extra 32,500 THB ($950) for the retractable tent on the roof that can sleep two adults. While not as luxurious as the motorhome, the touring package can carry plenty of gear in well-organized storage compartments, making it a nice option for camping adventures in the wilderness.
