- There’s a smorgasbord of electric vehicles for buyers to choose from in today’s market.
- A few standout models are vying for the title of best electric vehicle of the year.
- It’s your turn to play judge and crown the ultimate electric vehicle of 2024.
No car is perfect, and electric vehicles are certainly far from claiming that title, but they’re better than ever before. Many models are faster, more capable, less expensive, and more refined. Now, we invite you to decide which one deserves the top spot.
The rules are simple. You can pick any 2024 EV so long as you can make a compelling case for it. Arguments can even end up centered around pricing, tax rebates, range, charging speed, or charging infrastructure. With that, let’s dive into some of the many candidates available today.

Our lead image features three that could potentially qualify. The Tesla Model 3 was updated this year and basically takes everything good from the original and makes it better. It’s considerably quieter inside, the cabin materials are of a higher quality, and rear seat passengers get a small infotainment system to themselves. Considering that the Model 3 is a best-seller in the EV world, those changes are substantial.
Next, let’s chat about the other end of the spectrum, the Rimac Nevera R. The original, and already bonkers, Nevera was already a missile in a straight line. The R is a track-focused weapon with 1,989 hp on tap and updated torque vectoring for faster lap times.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre could also end up a winner since it might be the best implementation of an EV powertrain to date. It doesn’t need to be blisteringly fast, corner like a sports car, or have a ton of range. It needs to be quiet, luxurious, and imposing, and it accomplishes all of that exceptionally well.
Ultimately though, my pick for 2024 EV of the year has to be the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. While I haven’t driven one, the reviews, including our own by Brad Anderson, all point to one thing: it’s the next evolution of performance EVs. Cars like the Rimac Nevera might provide outright speed but the Ioniq 5 N aims to be blisteringly fast, playful in every way, and not so expensive that only the super-rich can afford it.
