- One Maserati ran out of fuel, despite the indicator suggesting it had a 1/4 of a tank left.
- The recall impacts 524 vehicles built from November 20, 2022, to July 4, 2024.
- Dealers will reflash software to ensure accurate fuel level readings for affected owners.
The 2024 Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio are significant improvements over the vehicles they replaced, but the Italian brand has discovered they have a fault with the fuel level display on the instrument cluster.
A recall notice issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that body control module software in new models may indicate an incorrect fuel level, which could trigger an unexpected engine stall if the vehicle runs out of fuel while still indicating that there’s still some left in the tank.

Fortunately for Maserati, the recall is limited to 524 vehicles. These consist of 2024 GranTurismo models manufactured from November 20, 2022, to July 4, 2024, totaling 454 units, as well as 2024 GranCabrio models built from November 20, 2022, to July 4, 2024.
A timeline issued as part of the recall says Maserati first received a claim related to the fuel level display being inaccurate in July 2023. In that case, the instrument panel showed the car had ¼ of a tank left when in fact, it was empty. Maserati Engineering and Manufacturing reviewed the issue between August 2023 and July 2024 before determining there was a fault in the body control module software.
Maserati knows of 4 customer assistance records, 4 warranty claims, and 2 field reports related to the issue between July 28, 2023, and June 14, 2024. It is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.
Dealers and owners will be alerted to the recall on or around October 28. The BCM software will be reflashed to ensure it shows the correct fuel level. Any owners who have paid to have the issue fixed will be reimbursed.
