The 2025 Infiniti QX80 is a very important car for the Japanese brand and it’s now suffered its first recall. When you stuff a car full of tech, something’s bound to go haywire eventually, and for the QX80, it’s a rearview camera glitch that’s thrown a wrench in the works. Infiniti’s response? They’ve even gone as far as to halt vehicles at the port while they figure out a fix.
This particular issue crops up after a cold start in some QX80s. Typically, shifting into reverse should trigger the backup camera display, but for unlucky owners dealing with the recall, the screen freezes. After a few awkward seconds of holding your breath, it goes entirely black. On top of that, it’ll display a warning message: “Park Assist is not available.”

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards require that the rearview camera functions properly at all times. As such, Infiniti has to fix the issue and it says it’ll do so with a simple software update to the Around View Monitor system. It should take roughly half of an hour. As of September 20, Infiniti says it issued a port hold for all 2025 QX80s that were coming into the USA.
It actually discovered the problem back in August during a routine evaluation. Interestingly, it happened once and then Nissan was unable to duplicate the fault. Then, two days later, on August 23, the automaker heard of a customer complaint with a similar issue. It downloaded the vehicle software logs to investigate further.
Finally, in September, it found a potential software logic issue that could lead to the problem itself. The affected software, version 06.97.00, is evidently present in 3,320 QX80s. No other Nissan or Infiniti vehicles have the problem. Owners will receive a notification letter beginning on November 21, 2024. Those concerned about if they’re affected can contact their local dealership or visit the NHTSA‘s site to find out.
