• Michael Schumacher’s 2006 Ferrari 248 F1 is expected to fetch over $10M at auction this November.
  • This 248 F1, driven by Michael Schumacher, claimed five victories during the 2006 F1 season.
  • The racer has been housed in a private collection since being purchased directly from Ferrari in 2007.

One of the most successful Formula 1 cars ever piloted by Michael Schumacher will be auctioned off in November and could smash records. While it’s not the only F1 driven by Schumacher that’s recently been listed for sale, it is one of the last cars he drove during the 2006 season, his final year in the sport before he came back from retirement in 2010 and returned with Mercedes.

This Ferrari 248 F1 is the fifth of eight chassis’ constructed for 2006 and made its racing debut at Imola, the fourth round of the championship. Schumacher took pole behind the wheel of the car and went on to claim victory, his first win of the 2006 championship.

At the following race at the Nurburgring, Schumacher qualified in second but a smart pitstop strategy in the race allowed it to walk away with the victory. This car was then driven to second place in the Spanish, British, and Canadian Grand Prix, and returned for the United States Grand Prix, where Schumacher claimed another pole position and another race win.

With the German ace behind the wheel, the 248 F1 was then driven to victory at the French Grand Prix before being retired after the Hungarian Grand Prix. Schumacher drove the car for one last time at Ferrari’s Finali Mondiali celebrations at Monza at the end of the season.

RM Sotheby’s says this very car was purchased from Ferrari by a private collector in December 2007 and has remained in the same collection ever since. It has received Ferrari Classiche certification and has been used for several private test sessions at the Fiorano circuit. It was also displayed at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles in 2017 for the ‘Seeing Red: 70 years of Ferrari’ exhibition.

The auction estimate for this Ferrari 248 F1 is north of $10 million, and given its pedigree, it could easily become one of the most expensive Schumacher-driven F1 cars ever sold. If you’re feeling bold (and have a few million burning a hole in your pocket), you might want to check out the listing at RM Sotheby’s.
