• Audi’s Q3 sales reached 46,752 units, marking a 21% decrease compared to last year.
  • Demand for most of the brand’s sedans and SUVs has fallen in 2024.
  • While Audi’s new car sales are down, its certified pre-owned vehicles are proving popular.

Audi has posted its sales data for the third quarter, and it does not make for pretty reading. The luxury automaker saw a downturn in nearly all its models, with only two exceptions: the e-tron GT and the Q3, both of which posted sales increases, standing out as rare glimmers of hope in an otherwise disappointing report.

Between the July-September period, the German marque sold 46,752 vehicles in the United States. This represents a 21% decrease from the 59,535 units it shifted in the third quarter of 2023. Audi’s year-to-date sales have also plunged 17% from 167,880 vehicles to just 139,665 this year.

SUV Sales Hit Hard While Sedans Struggle Even More

Looking at data from Q3 reveals that sales of the A3 have plunged 51% to 1,368 units, those of the A4 are down 46% to 1,356 units, and the A7’s have dropped 20% to 303. It’s a similar story with Audi’s SUVs, as demand for them has also fallen off a cliff. For example, sales of the Q5, Q7, and Q8, are down 24%, 31%, and 30%, respectively, while demand for the electric Q8 e-tron and Q8 Sportback e-tron has fallen by an even more considerable 51% for the former and 53% for the latter.

Meanwhile, the biggest percentage losses hit the discontinued R8 and TT models, with sales down 80% and 100%, respectively—though these declines were entirely expected as both have been retired.

The only piece of good news for Audi is that during the third quarter, sales of the e-tron GT rose by a moderate 5% to 673 units while sales of the Q3 increased by 36% to 7,422 units, up from 5,467. The Q3 has been selling well for the entire year and, year-to-date, has climbed 51% to 21,743 units. The only other models to experience any kind of sales growth from January-September were the A6, with a small 9% rise, and the Q4 Sportback e-tron, with a 12% increase in sales.

Although the sales of new Audi models are down, it is selling more certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles than last year. During the third quarter, the automaker moved 11,685 vehicles through its CPO program, a 21% increase from last year. Additionally, CPO sales have jumped 40% year-to-date to 36,091 units.
