• Santos Ford in Los Banos, California has a new 2008 Shelby GT500 Convertible.
  • It features less than 300 miles on the odometer and is in stunning condition.
  • The owner has several examples and has mixed feelings about parting with this one.

It’s not uncommon in the automotive world to wish for the chance to buy a classic car in new condition. What is far rarer is the actual opportunity to do exactly that. This 2008 Shelby GT500 Mustang is sitting at a Ford dealer with its original window sticker and less than 300 miles (just 482 km) on the odometer. Don’t get fooled into thinking that it’ll go for MSRP, though.

Featuring a black-on-black color combination, this drop-top muscle car comes with a 500 horsepower (372 kW) supercharged V8 and a six-speed manual gearbox by Tremec. This is one of the last Shelby Mustangs to arrive with a live rear axle, although its 285-section-width tires should help it maintain grip.

No, it’s not a supercar or even a high-end sports car like the current Mustang generation, but it was no slouch in its day. Running from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) took just a tick over five seconds. A quarter-mile drag race would take 13.8 seconds with a trap speed of 101.6 mph (163.5 km/h). Don’t forget that these Shelby editions also received special shocks, a performance exhaust, a Hurst shifter, and more.

According to John Costa, an employee of the owner of this Mustang and the dealer that it sits at, it’s far from his only one. Evidently, this is the highest mileage example of three Shelby Mustangs in the collection. As such, it needs to go, but don’t expect to pay what the window sticker indicates as the seller reportedly wants more than its $51,705 MSRP.

That’s not too out of sorts with similar models recently sold at public auctions. Interestingly, drop-top versions appear to go for considerably more than coupes. Here’s the best part, though: we spoke to the dealer, and they confirmed that the buyer will end up with a full three-year or 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, as well as a five-year/60,000-mile warranty for the powertrain.
