• Lo has also worked at Lotus, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and General Motors.
  • Between 2010 and 2021, he was the vice president of exterior design at Renault.
  • Todd Willing has replaced Lo as the head of Ford design.

Several months after it was revealed Ford’s design chief Anthony Lo was leaving the carmaker, it’s been revealed that he is moving to Chinese car brand BAIC Group Co and will serve as its chief design officer and vice president of global design.

Lo has had a long and successful design career at some of the world’s largest car manufacturers. Prior to joining Ford in early 2021 and serving as its chief design officer, Lo started his automotive career at Lotus in 1987. He then moved to Audi in 1990 and joined Mercedes-Benz in 1993, where he served as the chief designer for its Japanese studio.

The designer, born in Hong Kong, was then hired by Saab in 2000 and was responsible for the designs of the 2001 9X and 2006 Aero X concepts, as well as the production-spec 2005 Saab 9-5. Lo’s focus then switched to GM, which owned Saab at the time, and he led the design teams behind the 2008 Vauxhall Insignia as well as several concepts, including the 2007 Opel GTC and 2008 Opel Meriva. He was then the vice president of exterior design at Renault between 2010 and 2021.

In a recent statement, BAIC said Lo is expected to “greatly enhance BAIC’s design capability and international influence, helping it make breakthroughs in off-road vehicles, new energy products, and international cooperation projects.”

BAIC is the brand behind the compelling Arcfox family and builds several of its own SUVs and 4x4s, including the BJ40, BJ60, BJ90. BAIC is also behind the Jishi 01 electric SUV, also known as the Polestones 01, and the Chinese carmaker is readying a new minivan in partnership with Seres, Chery, and Huawei.

Filling the void left behind by Lo at Ford is Todd Willing. He has worked at the Dearborn-based carmaker for the past 21 years and led the designs of the 2007 Mondeo, 2009 Fiesta, 2010 Focus, and the 2017 Ford GT.
