- Mercedes, Moncler and NIGO have joined forces to create an “art piece” based on a 1990’s G-Class Cabriolet.
- The one-off model features a two-tone exterior and a soft top inspired by a puffy jacket.
- Mercedes also introduced a Past II Future special edition, which draws inspiration from the concept and will be limited to 20 units.
In one fell swoop, Mercedes has introduced a new “art piece” and a special edition G-Class. Both celebrate the model’s 45th anniversary and will likely prove to be divisive.
Starting with the concept, Mercedes and Moncler joined forces for a one-off Project G‑Class Past II Future. It’s based on a 1990’s convertible and has been modified by designer NIGO.

The resulting creation won’t please everyone, but it features a matte two-tone exterior in grey and olive green. They’re joined by black and gold accents as well as a soft top inspired by Moncler’s puffer jacket.
The latter makes the model look ridiculous, but it isn’t the only oddball touch as there’s also a golden fuel canister as well as a custom sound system with “boom boxes” mounted on the linkages for the roof. Other highlights include black steel wheels and retro-inspired fabric seats.
The special edition is loosely inspired by the concept and retains a green and grey exterior with black accents. They’re joined by black wheels, “Past II Future” badging, and a unique spare tire cover. Interior changes are minor, but appear to include retro upholstery and lettering noting the model is “One of 20.”
As you’ve likely guessed, production will be limited to 20 units and deliveries are slated to begin in April of 2025. They’ll be based on the G 450 d and G 500, which means customers can get a 3.0-liter diesel developing 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. It enables the SUV to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.8 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).
If diesel-power isn’t your thing, the G 500 has a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 443 hp (330 kW / 449 PS) and 413 lb-ft (560 Nm) of torque. This lowers the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time to 5.4 seconds, but the top speed remains unchanged at 130 mph (210 km/h).
