- Porsche has confirmed the next 911 Turbo will start production in the second half of 2025.
- CFO Lutz Meschke said the Turbo will feature the hybrid system like the one already fitted to the facelifted 992.2 GTS, meaning it won’t be a PHEV.
- Meschke also told investors that the non-hybrid Carrera S would begin rolling out of the Zuffenhausen plant in the first half of 2025.
The next Porsche 911 Turbo lands next year and will feature the same hybrid hardware already fitted to the latest Carrera GTS, the firm’s finance chief has confirmed.
Deputy CEO and CFO Lutz Meschke told journalists the Turbo-branded version of the facelifted 992.2-generation 911 would enter production in the second half of 2025. He also said that it would come “with the Varta cells on board.” Varta is the German company that provides the 1.9 kWh batteries for the GTS’s hybrid powerpack – and a business that Porsche saved from financial disaster with a €60 million ($65 m) cash injection in August.

The 2025 GTS isn’t a PHEV, can’t run on electric power alone and cuts CO2 emissions by just a handful of g/km. But it also provides a 54 hp (54 PS) boost via a motor stashed inside the compulsory eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and energizes an electric turbo that reduces the time between flooring the right pedal and receiving maximum torque from 2 seconds to just half a second.
Porsche came up with a new 3.6-liter flat-six for the 2025 GTS that gets by with one big turbo (because lag is no longer an issue) and delivers a total system output of 532 hp (540 PS) and 449 lb-ft (609 Nm).
That puts the GTS incredibly close to the 911 Turbo, which continues unchanged for 2025, and makes 572 hp (580 PS), or 640 hp (650 PS) as a Turbo S. Intel suggests the 2026 Turbo will get a more potent version of the GTS’s powertrain and it’s a safe bet that even the base Turbo will kick out over 600 hp (608 PS).
Meschke also revealed on the call with reporters that the Carrera S enters production in the first half of 2025. Like the base Carrera that made its debut alongside the GTS in May, the Carrera S doesn’t feature any kind of hybrid tech and isn’t in line for any dramatic tech changes.
The Carrera only received a small bump from 379 hp (385 PS) to 388 hp (394 PS) courtesy of a pair of up-sized turbochargers inherited from the old GTS, and the S, which made 443 hp (450 PS) before it was withdrawn at the end of the 2024 model year, is expected to make around 454 hp (460 PS) for 2026.

But any disappointment at that modest power boost will be tempered by the availability of a manual transmission for the first time in a 992.2. Neither the base Carrera or GTS hybrid are available with a stick. It’s worth mentioning that the dates Meschke refers to for the S and Turbo are for the start of production, so it’s possible that we could see both models debuting much earlier.
“The mix for the 911 will be quite satisfying next year,” Meschke said. We think so too.
