  • Visual updates are limited to the redesigned LEDs and a new spindle grille.
  • Inside there is an RX-sourced 14-inch infotainment display.

Lexus introduced another facelift for the ES midsize sedan in China, which could hint at the 2026MY updates for the US model. The luxurious sibling of the Toyota Camry benefits from mild visual updates and an a larger infotainment, although there are no changes under the skin.

The Chinese-spec Lexus ES debuted at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, together with the LX700h SUV. The most notable change on the sedan is its redesigned face. The slightly tweaked matrix LED headlights are combined with a new spindle grille that fades out on the hood, in a similar way to the Lexus RX.

The rest of the bodywork remains largely unchanged, with the exception of the LED taillights. These gain more modern graphics, and are connected by a full-width LED strip in line with the current design trends.

Inside, the highlight is the new 14-inch touchscreen display that replaces the 12.3-inch unit of its predecessor. As is the case with the Lexus RX, two rotary knobs are mounted on the display, integrating the climate and media controls. Other changes include the restyled gear knob, an improved voice control system, and new color options for the interior trim.

Powertrain options are carried over from its predecessor, meaning that the Chinese-spec Lexus ES misses out on the improved hybrid powertrain recently introduced by the US-spec Toyota Camry.

The base ES 200 is fitted with a non-electrified 2.0-liter engine generating 170 hp (127 kW / 173 PS), while the ES 300h features a self-charging hybrid setup with 2.5-liter engine and a single electric motor producing a combined 215 hp (160 kW / 217 PS). In both cases, power is transmitted to the front axle via a CVT.

The updated Lexus ES is already available to order in China, with the first examples having arrived at local dealerships. Pricing starts from ¥299,900 ($41,492) for the entry-level ES 200 Premium Edition, climbing to ¥488,900 for the flagship ES 300h Executive Edition.

The seventh-generation Lexus ES was introduced in 2018, and received its first facelift in 2021. While it is unclear if the updates introduced by the Chinese-spec model will be mirrored by the US-spec equivalent, another facelift for the 2026 MY would allow the Lexus ES to march on for a few more years.

Earlier teasers and patent filings suggest that Lexus is already working on a more extensive redesign for the ES without the spindle grille. The overhauled looks could be reserved for the rumored fully electric versions, or arrive later as a new generation model.
