- The updated Lexus ES debuted at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show in China.
- Visual updates are limited to the redesigned LEDs and a new spindle grille.
- Inside the biggest changes is an RX-sourced 14-inch infotainment display.
As the Lexus ES enters its sixth year of production, the automaker has deemed it time for another refresh, debuting the updated model in China. A precursor to what’s likely in store for other markets, including North America, the 2026 model year brings mild visual tweaks and a larger infotainment system. However, those hoping for more substantial updates beneath the surface will be left disappointed.
Unveiled at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show alongside the new LX700h SUV, the refreshed ES introduces a slightly reworked front end. The matrix LED headlights have been revised and paired with a updated spindle grille that tapers into the hood, reminiscent of the styling cues from the larger Lexus RX.

Beyond the refreshed face, the exterior changes elsewhere are minimal. The LED taillights now feature updated graphics and a full-width light bar, ticking the box for current design trends.
Inside, the most notable update is the new 14-inch touchscreen display, which replaces the previous 12.3-inch unit. It’s a welcome improvement and follows the same format seen in the RX, with two rotary knobs integrated for climate and media controls. There’s also a redesigned gear selector, an upgraded voice control system, and new interior trim and upholstery options.
No Mechanical Changes
At least in China, mechanically, the updated ES is identical to its predecessor, meaning it misses out on the improved hybrid powertrain recently introduced in the US-spec Toyota Camry. The lineup includes the base ES 200, powered by a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine delivering 170 hp (127 kW), and the ES 300h hybrid, which combines a 2.5-liter engine with a single electric motor for a total output of 215 hp (160 kW). Both configurations are mated to a CVT, sending power exclusively to the front wheels.
The updated Lexus ES is already available to order in China, with the first examples having arrived at local dealerships. Pricing starts from ¥299,900 ($41,492) for the entry-level ES 200 Premium Edition, climbing to ¥488,900 for the flagship ES 300h Executive Edition.
The seventh-generation Lexus ES launched in 2018 and underwent its first facelift in 2021. While it has yet to be confirmed if the updates from the Chinese-spec model will reach the US version, another facelift for the 2026 model year could help extend the ES’s lifespan for a couple of years.
Earlier teasers and patent filings indicate that Lexus may already be preparing a more comprehensive redesign of the ES, potentially ditching the signature spindle grille. These refreshed looks could be exclusive to the rumored fully electric versions or may debut later with the next-generation model.
