Geely Auto has launched the new Cowboy at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, a new variant of the Geely Icon that has been on sale since 2020, featuring a few redesigned bits and off-road accessories for a more rugged stance.

The biggest highlights compared to the Icon are the new bumpers and chunkier side protection, alongside a generous amount of plastic cladding around the wheel arches. Other differences include a roof rack with integrated LEDs, and a set of unique 17-inch alloy wheels shod in all-terrain tires.

At the back, you might think there is a spare tire holder but it’s actually a storage compartment to hold wet or dirty items. This is joined by an accessory box mounted on the C-pillar, similar to the Land Rover Defender. The Cowboy is available in four different color options – Snow White, Jungle Green, Volcanic Gray, and Desert Brown.

The Chinese SUV measures 4,442 mm (174.9 inches) long, 1,860 mm (73.2 inches) wide, and 1,770 mm tall (69.7 inches), with a 2,640 mm (103.9 inches) wheelbase. This is similar to a Toyota Corolla Cross, although the Geely is taller due to the extra gear on its roof.

Inside, the dashboard has a few differences compared to the Geely Icon, including an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, which is separated from the larger 14.6-inch infotainment display. It also adopts the bulkier A/C vents from the pre-facelifted Icon and a total of 42 storage compartments.

As with the Icon, the Cowboy rides on Geely’s B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA). Under the hood lies a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine, generating 178 hp (133 kW / 180 PS) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque. Despite the adventurous looks, power is transmitted to the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Geely Cowboy is already available in China, priced from ¥95,900 ($13,200). Interestingly, this is cheaper than the Geely Icon which currently starts from ¥96,900 ($13,400).
