• The 2008 Shelby GT500 KR, limited to 1,011 units, is a true collector’s item.
  • Both Mustangs feature a 5.4-liter supercharged V8, producing 540 hp.
  • The 103-mile example is priced at $80k, while the 51-mile model is $90k.

The Shelby name has long been synonymous with crafting some of the most powerful Ford Mustangs on earth. So, naturally, a GM dealership in Kansas is offering what could be two of the lowest-mileage Shelby GT500 KRs in existence, you can bet it’s going to catch the attention of collectors. After all, if you’re in the business of selling Cadillacs and Chevys, what better way to stir the pot than by offering Ford’s finest?

Both of these GT500 KRs are 2008 models and only recently landed at Eddy’s Chevrolet Cadillac in Wichita. Neither of them is cheap, but we suspect enthusiast collectors will be chomping at the bit to try and get their hands on them.

The most affordable of the two is painted silver with blue racing stripes and has an asking price of $79,794. It has only been driven 103 miles (166 km), meaning the 5.4-liter supercharged V8 has barely been broken in. Given how few miles the car has under its belt, it comes as no surprise that it looks completely brand new, with virtually no signs of wear on the exterior, in the cabin, or under the hood.

The second GT500 KR available is even more special. It has had just a single owner since it was new and has only been driven 51 miles (82 km). It makes a bolder statement with bright blue paint and white racing stripes. That’s not all, as it still has plastic on the seats and the original pieces of sticky plastic over the steering wheel badge and small infotainment screen. Eddy’s Chevrolet Cadillac is asking $92,887 for this one.

The Pricing Debate

Are these cars worth their asking prices? Well, just 1,011 examples of the GT500 KR were built in 2008, making these cars decidedly rare. However, a look online reveals it’s possible to get a 2020 or 2021 Shelby GT500 for between $80,000 and $90,000.

Not only is it much more modern than the old car and comes equipped with many more advanced technologies, it’s also much more powerful. In 2008, the GT500 KR put supercars on notice with its 540 hp, but the more recent GT500 churns out a monumental 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque, pushing it into an entirely new level of performance.

So, what’s your move? The 2008 GT500 KR, dripping with nostalgia and rarity, or the newer, more powerful, and technologically advanced Shelby GT500? Head over to Eddy’s to check them out (here and here), and let us know which one would have you reaching for your checkbook.
