• A replica Shelby Cobra from Bad Boys is set to be auctioned next month.
  • The Midnight Blue replica is powered by a 351 cubic-inch Cleveland V8.
  • It’s owned by a company that rents cars for the film and music industries.

A replica 1965 Shelby Cobra that starred in Bad Boys back in 1995 is heading to auction in January and represents a unique opportunity to own a classic with some star-studded appeal. While it may not be an original Cobra, few would be able to notice the difference, other than the most knowledgeable of collectors and enthusiasts.

Bad Boys, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, was a 90s hit and spawned three follow-ups, the most recent of which was released earlier this year. The Cobra wasn’t driven by Smith or Lawrence but rather the weapon of choice for the movie’s big bad, French drug lord Antoine Fouchet, during the film’s final showdown. It was one of two replica Cobras used during the film and remains under the possession of its original owner – South Beach Classics, which rents out cars to the music and movie industries.

The car was originally painted red but was resprayed in Midnight Blue before filming of Bad Boys started. It was used for the beauty shots throughout the film, while the other Cobra was destroyed in a wreck.

Mecum Auctions says the Cobra has remained in storage since filming wrapped up and includes a copy of the original registration for Columbia Pictures.

Compared to legitimate Cobras from the 1960s, this replica is slightly larger, giving it a more spacious interior. It has a 351 cubic-inch Cleveland V8 mated to an FMX automatic transmission and a nine-inch Ford rear end. There’s a large roll hoop positioned behind the driver’s seat, and white racing stripes add to the car’s appeal. While the seller hasn’t said how much power the car delivers, it will be enough to excite anyone behind the wheel.

The cabin is pretty simple, featuring a Nardi Torino steering wheel, a Hurst shifter, and a gauge cluster sitting in the center of the dash. Mecum hasn’t released a pre-auction estimate for the car, but if it tickles your fancy, head over to the listing for more details on how you can bid.
