• The Ford F-Series is slated to be America’s best-selling truck and best-selling vehicle once again.
  • While the final numbers are pending, Ford sold 550,835 F-Series trucks through the first nine months of the year.
  • That put them 138,439 units ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado, but GM will likely get the last laugh.

The year is coming to a close, but Ford is already claiming victory for 2024. However, this isn’t much of a surprise as the F-Series has been the undisputed sales champion for decades. That continues once again as Ford noted the F-Series reigned as America’s best-selling truck for the 48th year in a row. Furthermore, the F-Series was the best-selling overall vehicle for the 43rd consecutive year.

While we won’t get the final numbers until early next year, third quarter year-to-date sales stood at 550,835 units for a slight decline of 3.9%. Ram truck sales were down 19% in the first nine months of the year to 268,666 units, while Chevrolet Silverado sales were up 0.2% to hit a total of 412,396.

However, GM will likely outsell Ford overall as adding the GMC Sierra into the mix introduces an extra 229,398 units. That puts GM’s full-size truck figure at 641,794 which dwarfs Ford’s 550,835 units by a considerable margin.

GMC’s success is notable as Sierra sales were up 6.1% through the first nine months of the year. That was well ahead of key rivals, although it’s worth noting Toyota Tundra sales soared 26.8% to register a year-to-date total of 117,523 units in Q3.

Getting back to the Blue Oval, the automaker said the “F-Series’ success is built on Ford’s commitment to offer a diverse range of powertrains to meet every customer’s needs. No other manufacturer offers the choices Ford does. From gas and diesel-powered workhorses to the PowerBoost Hybrid and all-electric F-150 Lightning – Ford continues to lead the charge in truck innovation.”

The company went on to note they have sold over 33 million F-Series trucks since 1977 and highlight the fact that the F-150 will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.
