• Power comes courtesy of a 4.9-liter naturally-aspirated V8 with 394 hp and 369 lb-ft.
  • This M5 has been driven just ~18,000 miles and looks to be in superb condition.
  • It’s finished in Carbon Black over Caramel Nappa Heritage leather.

BMW has built plenty of memorable M5s over the decades, but of them all, few have aged as gracefully as the E39 generation. Built between 1998 and 2003, it was the first M5 to feature a V8 engine and still looks just as good today as it did 25 years ago.

Every now and then, low-mileage E39 M5s are listed for sale in the US, and one available in Neptune, New Jersey, has caught our eye. It’s currently up for auction through Bring a Trailer, and not only does it look immaculate, but it’s only ever been driven ~18,000 miles (~29,000 km) and is being sold at no reserve with the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean New Jersey title.

Watch: BMW Might Be Lying About The New M5’s Horsepower Again

A simple shade of Carbon Black Metallic adorns the exterior of the car and has been paired with 18-inch wheels clad in Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires. It’s been lovingly maintained throughout the years and looks just as good now as it did when it left the factory in 2003.

Adorning the seats is Caramel Nappa Heritage leather that shows minimal signs of wear and is contrasted with black leather on the top of the dashboard, door panels, and the steering wheel. Burr walnut wood trim exemplifies the era in which this car was built.

 Low-Mileage E39 M5 Is BMW M At Its Finest

The BMW E39 M5 is powered by a thumping naturally-aspirated V8 under the hood, displacing 4.9 liters and producing 394 hp at 6,600 rpm and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque at 3,800 rpm. While these figures pale in comparison to the 717 hp delivered by the new hybrid M5, the E39 has something the new car doesn’t: a six-speed manual transmission and a traditional limited-slip differential driving just the rear wheels. We’re not sure about you, but we’d take a stick shift over an extra 323 hp any day of the week.

Be sure to head on over to Bring a Trailer if you want to place a bid on this pristine E39 M5 before it’s too late.
