Sony and Polyphony Digital are celebrating the PlayStation’s 30th anniversary by announcing an all-new game called My First Gran Turismo. It launches on December 6 at 12:00 am local time and will be a free-to-play entry into the series.
Gran Turismo creator and Polyphony Digital President, Kazunori Yamauchi, said the game “pays tribute to the origins of the first Gran Turismo, where players of all generations discovered the joys of driving.” As part of this effort, the latest installment promises to be immersive but approachable – even for those with limited driving skills.

The game will be available on the PS4 and PS5, and feature three Race Events, three Time Trials, and three Music Rally stages. There will also be an assortment of License Tests, achievements, and challenges. Players will also find classic tracks including Deep Forest Raceway, the Kyoto Driving Park, and the Trial Mountain Circuit.
The game will feature 18 different cars that users can collect. The companies didn’t release a full list, but promotional material shows a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, 1974 Lamborghini Countach, 1983 Toyota AE86, 1989 BMW M3 Sport Evolution, 2003 Audi TT Coupe, 2005 Mini Cooper S, 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI, and 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata. We can also see an Acura NSX, Citroen DS, Daihatsu Copen, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo, Suzuki Jimny, and Volvo 240 SE.
The game was designed to be enjoyable for everyone from “7 to 77” and the License Center will help teach newcomers the basics of cornering, braking, and acceleration. Yamauchi said this will be done in an intuitive fashion, so players “will build confidence one lap at a time, tackling new challenges that’ll steadily refine their driving skills.”
