• Porsche updates 911, Taycan, and Panamera with YouTube integration across infotainment systems.
  • Models with the optional passenger screen can stream YouTube while the vehicle is on the move.
  • The app will only work on the 911 when the car is stationary since it lacks a passenger screen.

For front-seat passengers riding in new Porsche models yearning for some entertainment, Zuffenhausen has the solution: YouTube. Yep, 911, Taycan, Cayenne, and Panamera models will be updated to include YouTube after the app was recently launched on the new Macan Electric.

In models equipped with a passenger display—like the Taycan, Cayenne, and Panamera—YouTube can be enjoyed even when the car is in motion. In these cases, the content is limited to the passenger screen, ensuring the driver stays focused on the road.

For the iconic Porsche 911, which lacks a passenger display, YouTube playback is restricted to the central infotainment screen and only works when the car is stationary. Similarly, when any of the compatible models are parked, the app shifts to the main display, allowing for a shared viewing experience.

All newly delivered models will come with YouTube pre-installed, while owners of existing cars can get it through a free over-the-air software update. While most owners and passengers will probably only use the system for entertainment purposes, Porsche itself has a tutorial series on YouTube that explains important vehicle functions.

Porsche is far from the only carmaker to add YouTube to its infotainment system. For example, all cars with Google built-in will receive YouTube in the coming years, and this has already started with Volvo and Polestar models. Other brands offering vehicles with Google built-in include Chevrolet, Honda, and Renault. Mercedes-Benz also has a licensing deal with Google to add YouTube to its MB.OS operating system.

Meanwhile, Rivian joined the trend earlier this year by adding YouTube and Google Cast to its R1S and R1T models. Like Porsche’s central display setup, Rivian’s system only works when the vehicle is stationary. Even so, it’s a welcome addition for EV owners spending time at public charging stations.
