• A one-off example of the Porsche 997 GT3 is currently listed for an absurd $2 million.
  • It is based on a 2007 model, featuring a unique livery by French artist Richard Orlinski.
  • The original auction in 2018 had an estimate of $190-240k, with profits going to charity.

The Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS have long held their place as icons of the sports car world, celebrated for their raw performance, precision engineering, and undeniable allure. While it’s no surprise that used examples often command premium prices, this particular one-off GT3 art car takes things to a whole different level with an asking price of $2 million. Yes, two million.

The car in question is a 2007 pre-facelift Porsche 997 GT3 that, at first glance, seems fairly standard—albeit in fantastic condition. With 41,240 kilometers (25,625 miles) on the odometer and no apparent mechanical modifications, you might wonder what could possibly justify such a stratospheric price. So, what gives?

Art Meets Asphalt

The answer lies in its one-of-a-kind exterior. The car’s livery is the work of Richard Orlinski, a French sculptor and neo-pop artist best known for his striking animal-inspired creations.

Transforming this GT3 into a rolling canvas was no quick weekend project, as it reportedly took 500 hours of labor to complete, with 10 meticulously applied layers of gray paint and 11 layers of vibrant yellow. The patterns echo Orlinski’s signature style, and his personal touch is literally stamped onto the car with a signature on the rear and a metal plaque in the cabin.

While the artwork steals the spotlight, everything under the hood remains pure GT3. The art car retains the stock 3.6-liter flat-six engine that produced 409 hp (305 kW / 415 PS), and the GT3-specific chassis setup. Furthermore, it is equipped with lots of extras, including the Club Sport Package, the Sport Chrono Package, bi-xenon headlights, cruise control, and a pair of lightweight buckets.

Elite Automotive

The donor car might have been produced in 2007, but the art car was finished in 2018, commemorating the 55th anniversary of both the Porsche 911 and the Rolex Daytona watch. According to Classic Driver, after its metamorphosis, the art car was auctioned in Monaco that same year, with proceeds going to charity. At the time, its estimated value ranged between €185,000 and €230,000 ($192,800-$239,700). A far cry from its current sky-high price,

Fast forward to 2024, and this Orlinski-designed GT3 has resurfaced in Portugal, waiting for a deep-pocketed enthusiast to take it home. Elite Automotive, the seller, lists it as “price on request,” but a quick glance at James Edition reveals the actual asking price: a staggering €2,000,000 ($2,085,300).

A quick search online reveals that this amount is absurd for any 911 of this era. Several examples of the 997 GT3 are currently being offered for around $130,000 in Europe. For a good measure, the only other modern Porsches approaching the $2-million mark are the Carrera GT and the limited-production track-only 935.

Unsurprisingly, this eye-watering price tag might be why the car is still sitting unsold over a year after it was listed. Sure, it’s a unique piece of automotive art, but at this price, it’s hard to imagine anyone stepping up to the plate anytime soon—especially when $2 million could buy you an actual Picasso and a garage full of regular GT3s.
