• Honda is recalling nearly 300,000 vehicles that could unexpectedly stall or lose drive power.
  • The software issue impacts the Honda Pilot as well as the Acura TLX Type-S and MDX Type-S.
  • The Acura MDX is also being recalled over a faulty rearview camera display.

Acura and Honda are recalling 294,612 vehicles because of a software issue that impacts the fuel injection electronic control unit. Unfortunately, this can cause the engine to stall or lose power.

The recall involves the 2021-2025 Acura TLX Type-S, 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type-S, and 2023-2025 Honda Pilot. The government said that due to improper programming, “sudden changes in the throttle opening” could cause the engine to lose drive power, hesitate, and/or stall.

Honda began investigating the issue in December of 2023 and were notified by Denso of a potential problem in April of 2024. The companies continued gathering and analyzing data, eventually deciding to conduct a recall earlier this month. As of January 16, the automaker has received 674 warranty claims related to the issue, but there are no reports of injuries or crashes.

Owners will be notified in March and they’ll be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealership, where the FI-ECU software will be reprogrammed.

In other Acura news, the company is recalling 9,221 MDXs from the 2025 model year. Their infotainment system can go blank, resulting in the loss of a rearview camera display. This runs afoul of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

The problem was traced to improper software programming as “the center information display unit may show a black screen after the transmission is shifted from reverse to other drive positions within a certain time. If the transmission is shifted into reverse following this display error, the screen remains black, rather than displaying the reverse camera view.”

Honda noticed the issue in October of last year and isn’t aware of any crashes, injuries, or warranty claims related to the problem. Owners will be notified in March and dealers will replace the entire infotainment system.
