• The motorcyclist appears to have been traveling way too fast for the local area.
  • Despite not wearing full protective clothing, the rider avoided serious injury.
  • It seems the actions of the biker and the driver both contributed to the crash.

A motorcyclist in the US has been lucky to survive a brutal crash, all of which was captured on film. While the rider was quick to blame the driver of a pickup truck that cut in front of him, his own actions also contributed to the crash. The video serves as an important reminder for all motorists about just how quickly things can turn from good to bad in a split second.

In the clip, the rider goes from speeding down a rural street to picking himself off the pavement in less than 5 seconds. At the start of the clip, it looks like the speedometer reads 126 km/h (~78 mph), as you can see in the photo below. Evidently, that’s not the type of street anyone should be going that fast on. Although we have no way of verifying it, according to one commenter on Reddit this is Highway 99 in Cottage Grove, Oregon, and the speed limit is 35 mph (56 km/h).

Biker Cheats Death Sliding Under Pickup Truck In Shocking 78 MPH Crash

As the helmet-mounted camera pans up from the sports bike’s dash, a pickup truck can be seen driving across the road, making a left-hand turn in the path of the biker. The driver probably would have made the turn had they kept on going, but instead, she hit the brakes and stopped in the middle of the road.

With little time to react, the rider begins to brake and swerves to the right, but within an instant, the front wheel loses grip and the bike falls to its side. Both the bike and the rider slide under the truck. As the man gets up, we can see he skidded down the road for upwards of 50 feet and in the process, appears to have badly ripped his jeans and suffered a fair bit of road rash. Which, all things considered, should make him feel extremely lucky, as the outcome could have been much, much worse.

A trail of wreckage has been left behind by the destroyed bike. The rider confronts the pickup truck driver, asking “Why did you stop? Why didn’t you just commit?” While that’s a valid point, his speed also played a big role; had he been going slower, the whole thing could have been avoided. Instead, he’s now minus a pair of jeans, some skin and, most likely, a motorcycle – but at least he’s alive.
