If you’re a driving enthusiast searching for a car that makes you feel like you’re behind the wheel of something truly special, it’s hard to overlook the legendary Mazda MX-5 Miata. One example is currently up for auction in the US, and it might be one of the lowest-mileage first-generation Miatas still on the road today.
This pristine 1-owner car is finished in Classic Red, and it’s been sheltered in the sunny New Mexico climate since it was first sold. Despite the Miata’s brilliance as a driver’s car, the owner has only ever covered 4,810 miles (7,740 km) in its lifetime. While that’s almost criminal considering how fun this little roadster is, it does present a rare chance for someone to experience the magic of the Miata in near-new condition.

Power comes from a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 116 hp and 100 lb-ft (136 Nm) of torque. Of course, this engine routes power to the rear wheels through a slick five-speed manual transmission. By modern standards, figures like 116 hp and 100 lb-ft are easy to dismiss. However, the NA Miata only weighs around 2,200 lbs (1,000 kg), meaning it’s probably the closest anyone could get to driving a big go-kart on the road without forking out the money for a Lotus.
Given its incredibly low mileage, it’s no surprise that this Miata is in near-perfect condition. The bodywork is spotless, free from any major damage, and it still rides on the original 14-inch steel wheels. Plus, it comes with the sought-after factory body-colored hardtop—an absolute win for any Miata enthusiast—and the original folding fabric soft top. Inside, the classic MX-5 interior has aged beautifully. The cloth seats show hardly any signs of wear.
The current Mazda MX-5 is just as fantastic as the original is to drive, but there’s something special about seeing an NA model with so few miles under its belt. If you can see yourself owning the car, head over to Cars & Bids before it’s too late.
