• The owner and founder of Hendrick Motorsports is happy to splash out on special C8s.
  • All of the money from the auction will benefit the American Red Cross, helping disaster victims.
  • Adorning the ZR1’s bodywork is gloss black paint with blue racing stripes and blue wheels.

The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 isn’t just the most powerful ‘Vette eve but it also pushes it deep into hypercar territory, outmuscling hybrid giants like the Lamborghini Revuelto and Ferrari SF90 Stradale. Even more impressive, it does so with a starting price of $175,000, a relative steal for this level of performance, assuming you can dodge the inevitable greedy dealer markups.

Even so, it’s surprising that the first production unit sold over the weekend for an eye-popping $3.7 million. Less surprising? The winning bidder: Rick Hendrick.

VIN 001 was auctioned off by Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, and it only took a few minutes from when bidding opened to when the gavel was struck and Hendrick declared the winner. The American businessman who owns Hendrick Motorsports has a habit of snapping up the first production units of each C8 Corvette.

The owner of the first C8 ZR1 also paid $3 million for the first 2020 Corvette Stingray and in January 2022, he paid $3.6 million for the first Corvette Z06. A few months later, he coughed up $1 million for the first Corvette Z06 Convertible and, in April 2023, paid $1.1 million for the first Corvette E-Ray.

Chevrolet won’t be laughing all the way to the bank with Hendrick’s $3.7 million. All the funds raised from the auction will directly benefit the American Red Cross to help areas impacted by Hurricane Milton and Hurricane Helene, as well as other recent disasters, including wildfires. Chevy has raised $12.9 million for charity by auctioning off C8-gen Corvettes over the past few years.

“General Motors has shared some of our biggest and most memorable moments when we have raised money together for charity on the Barrett-Jackson auction block,” chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, Craig Jackson said. “Over the years, GM has entrusted Barrett-Jackson to sell some of their most coveted first-production vehicles for charity, and we’re honored to have continued that tradition in Scottsdale with the sale of the first retail production 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.”

Hendrick’s latest whip has a particularly eye-catching spec. It’s finished in gloss black contrasted with blue racing stripes. The car also rocks matching blue wheels and has plenty of exposed carbon fiber parts. It’d be nice if Hendrick drives his new 1,064 hp beast, but given that he already owns over 100 Corvettes, we’re not getting our hopes up of seeing this ZR1 on the road anytime soon.
