- During the pursuit, the Jeep and the police cruiser exceeded 130 mph (209 km/h).
- Eventually, the officer lost sight of the Grand Cherokee and had to call off the chase.
Say what you will about the previous-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee and its horribly outdated interior and debatable reliability – the old V8-powered models were serious performers with great straight-line speed and solid brakes. The driver of one of these Grand Cherokees recently demonstrated the SUV’s abilities while out-running, and ultimately losing, a police cruiser in the US.
Dashcam footage of this police chase has been circling since August last year, but we only recently caught wind of it. It was filmed by the dashcam of a cruiser by the Arkansas State Police, showing an officer trying (and failing) to keep up with a Grand Cherokee.

It appears as though police initiated the chase after the blacked-out SRT sped past a police cruiser along a suburban four-lane road. The officer quickly gets behind the Jeep and flick on their lights and sirens. However, as the speeds start to build, the Jeep begins to pull away.
The officer does his best to keep up, exceeding 130 mph (209 km/h) and just keeping the Jeep in his sights. However, just after the 3:50 mark, the driver of the Grand Cherokee hits the brakes for a red light and makes a sharp right turn. The officer can’t stop his patrol car as quickly and overshoots the intersection, forcing him to quickly reverse to try and get back behind the SUV. Seconds later, it appears the Jeep driver turns off their lights, disappearing into the night.
For several minutes, the Arkansas State Police officer continues to speed through local streets, attempting to find the speeding SRT, but to no avail. He ultimately calls an end to the pursuit.
