• Japanese tuner Kuhl brought two wild-looking sports cars for the Tokyo Auto Salon 2025.
  • The Toyota GR Supra and the Nissan Fairlady Z have received a Spec-D widebody kit.

The Toyota GR Supra and the Nissan Fairlady Z are two of the most famous Japanese sports cars, making them incredibly popular in the aftermarket world. While the models have been around for quite some time, Kuhl has launched two brand-new widebody kits that have quite a visual impact.

The controversial kits are inspired by the Showa era and drift cars, with a few references to Japan’s Bosozoku tuning culture. The show cars made their first public outing at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon, where the Nissan Fairlady Z was awarded the Grand Prize in this year’s Custom Car Contest.

According to Kuhl, development for the Z started a year ago and was completed just in time for the show. The bodykit is called Spec-D, featuring ultra-wide fenders with bold-on matte black extensions on top of them, adding 80 mm (3.1 inches) on each side, combined with pronounced side skirts.

The Spec-D kit also features custom front and rear bumpers, a new hood, a massive splitter, and an equally large rear wing making it look like a time-attack monster. Another eye-catching feature is the quad tailpipes at the back which extend upwards adopting the “bamboo spear” style.

The modified Z rides on a set of 19-inch forged two-piece Verz Krone 04 wheels, which are significantly wider than stock. Chassis upgrades include an Air Force Super Performance suspension, to achieve the slammed look. As for the engine, there is no mention of any performance upgrades on the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 of the Fairlady Z.

While Kuhl’s Nissan Fairlady Z Spec-D is a one-off created for Tokyo Auto Salon, some of its parts are already available to purchase in Japan.

A “Highly Controversial Design” for the Toyota GR Supra

Moving on to the Toyota GR Supra, which has also benefited from the Spec-D widebody kit with equally striking results. Kuhl admits that the design is “highly controversial”, and stands out from its previous offerings thanks to a “sharp, edgy style”.

The aero was inspired by the GR Supra of “OreDa! Racing” which has been racing in the D1GP drift series. The Spec-D widebody looks even more daring.

The front end features a redesigned bumper with angular surfacing around the intakes, an oversized splitter, and integrated canards. These are joined by a bulged bonnet that appears to sacrifice some visibility. The profile is dominated by the vented fender extensions that wouldn’t look out of place in a Le Mans racer.

The rear is probably the highlight. Kuhl added a huge rear spoiler above the aftermarket LEDs, combined with a roof-mounted wing. The sharp edges of the rear bumper match the pronounced diffuser and the quad tailpipes.

Kuhl’s Supra rides on forged 19-inch two-piece alloys by Verz Wheels and an Air Force Super Performance suspension. The bodywork was finished in Kuhl’s signature “Elegant Gold” shade, matching the Nissan Fairlady Z Spec-D and the modified Nissan R35 GT-R which was also present at the show.

According to Kuhl, the GR Supra Spec-D is available for purchase as a complete car or as standalone parts. Toyota might have stopped taking orders for the GR Supra in Japan, but those interested can order complete cars from the tuner based on used examples.
