• The G-Class’s original 2.3-liter engine has been rebuilt with new internals.
  • The interior features beautiful saddle-colored leather upholstery and a Sony sound system.
  • A 2-inch lift kit with new shocks and springs should help the Merc conquer any terrain.

Whether it has its soft top up or folded away, this overhauled Mercedes-Benz G-Class from Legacy Overland is ready for all kinds of adventures. Sure, it may not have all of the same trick technologies as a new G-Wagen, but it has a retro vibe that cannot be matched by any modern off-roader, nor even any of those restomodded Ford Broncos we keep seeing pop up.

This G-Class was delivered to Legacy Overland in a particularly sorry state, filled with rust and covered in dirt and grime. It was completely stripped down and rebuilt with updated parts, with fabricators restoring the original bodywork and finishing it all off with a shade of Bronze Metallic and satin black trim and accents.

The classic Mercedes off-roader rides on 20-inch AMG wheels and has been fitted with a custom-built soft top. Legacy has also installed a snorkel, a black bull bar, headlight grilles, and a heavy-duty winch should the owner ever get stuck or find someone else who’s stranded. The headlights and taillights have also been updated with LED units.

Rather than slotting in a new engine, the owner opted to have the G’s original 2.3-liter engine rebuilt with new internals, gaskets, injectors, and sensors. The automatic transmission and transfer case have also been overhauled. Providing the G320 with a 2-inch lift are new shocks, bushings, and coil springs.

No good restomod would be complete without a refreshed interior. Key upgrades made to his G-Class include a wood-trimmed steering wheel, saddle-colored leather upholstery, new bench seats at the rear, a double-din Sony system with Bluetooth, and a custom center tunnel with USB ports.

While we don’t know how much the owner paid for this rather extensive restoration, it can’t have been cheap. But, as a way to stand out on the road, cruising along a beach, or storming up an off-road trail, this restored G-Class ticks all the boxes.
