- Mitsubishi posted its best sales year since 2019, delivering 109,843 vehicles in 2024.
- The Mirage doubled its 2024 sales, ending its U.S. run with a surprising momentum.
- The Outlander led the brand’s lineup, achieving record-breaking sales numbers last year.
A decade after it quietly entered the U.S. market, the Mitsubishi Mirage has managed an ironic, almost poetic finale. Just as its North American run draws to a close, the pint-sized model has become the brand’s second-best-selling vehicle of 2024. In doing so, it more than doubled its sales from the previous year, cementing itself as a surprise hero for Mitsubishi and helping the company achieve its strongest sales performance in years.

If you’re looking for a reason why, it’s simple: price. Starting at $16,695 for the hatch and $17,795 for the G4 sedan, the Mirage holds the title of America’s second-cheapest car, just behind the $16,930 Nissan Versa. Despite its bargain-bin reputation, the Mirage attracted 29,766 buyers in 2024, an impressive 125% increase over 2023’s 13,219 units. Mitsubishi had already announced earlier this year that the Mirage would exit the U.S. market, with no 2025 model planned, leaving it as a crossover-only brand.
However, even though production for the American market technically ended in late 2024, dealer inventories are expected to stretch into summer 2025. If you’re a fan of no-frills, hyper-affordable motoring, this is your last chance to snag one, assuming the “everything must go” sale vibe doesn’t get to it first.
Mitsubishi’s Best Sales Year Since 2019
The Mirage’s performance was just one highlight of Mitsubishi’s strong showing in 2024, despite the brand’s aging and uninspired lineup. The brand’s overall U.S. sales climbed 25% year-over-year, totaling 109,843 units—the best it has done since 2019. All five models in Mitsubishi’s lineup posted gains.

At the top of the sales charts sits the Outlander, which continues to be Mitsubishi’s number one player. Even with a refreshed model on the horizon (set to debut in February 2025), the Outlander posted solid numbers, with 9,624 units sold in the fourth quarter, up 7.2% from Q4 2023. For the full year, Outlander sales hit 45,253, an increase of 6.5%, marking its best-ever sales performance.

While the Outlander led the charge, the rest of Mitsubishi’s lineup quietly held its own, with each model recording at least modest gains. The Outlander Sport saw a small bump, rising 0.7% to 15,125 units for the year. The Eclipse Cross impressed with a 28.2% jump, climbing to 12,724 units, proving that there’s still an audience for a crossover named after a long-gone sports coupe.
Meanwhile, the Outlander Plug-In Hybrid managed a respectable 4.4% increase to 6,975 units, though its modest growth suggests hybrid buyers may be holding out for the fresher tech promised by the upcomning facelift model.
