• Affected models include the Jaguar XE, Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Defender, and Discovery Sport.
  • Owners of all impacted models will be notified by mail of the impending recall by March 14.

Jaguar Land Rover has issued two separate recalls impacting four of its models in the United States. While these two recalls are unrelated, they can both cause the rearview camera display to not function, meaning they fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Both recalls were issued on January 16. The first impacts a total of 28,370 vehicles, consisting of 2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport models built between April 18, 2023, and September 8, 2023, 2023-2024 Land Rover Defenders produced from December 15, 2022, to June 28, 2024, and 2023 Range Rover Evoques assembled from March 22, 2023, to March 23, 2023.

The British brand has identified an issue in vehicles equipped with a 10-inch infotainment display, where a timing mismatch in the screen’s software can cause the touch screen to go blank upon startup. If the screen fails, the rearview camera becomes useless, potentially increasing the risk of an accident.

JLR first became aware of a potential issue in March and, for several months, investigated it, before closing the case in June after determining there was no need to fix it. However, in October, the probe was restarted after JLR received further field reports related to it. In total, the company has received 1,025 claims and field reports across the US.

Impacted owners will be alerted to the recall before March 14, 2025, and dealers will need to update the infotainment software free of charge.

XE Recall

The second recall is specifically for 2019-2020 Jaguar XE models built from June 18, 2018, to September 10, 2020. In this case, damaged wiring in the sedan’s trunk could cause the rearview camera to only work intermittently or permanently fail. JLR has received 5 claims and field reports, but is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or fires.

As with the first recall, impacted owners will be notified before March 14, 2025. Dealers will inspect the camera cable and repair or replace it if necessary.
