• Video footage from a Ring camera shows the moment a Porsche 911 S/T was saved from raging LA fire.
  • The owner moves his Tesla Model Y out of the way to get the rare 911 coupe out of his garage and to safety.
  • Only 1,963 S/Ts are being built, each featuring the 518 hp GT3 RS engine and a six-speed manual gearbox.

Hundreds of people have lost their homes and prized possessions in the recent Los Angeles fires that have claimed at least 25 lives. But video footage shows one 911 owner was determined not to leave his property without his rare Porsche.

The clip taken by a Ring camera system attached to an upmarket property opens with a man quickly unplugging the charging cable from a black SUV parked on an LA driveway and throwing it onto the ground. The air behind him is thick with smoke and strong winds are blowing the basketball net above his drive and the trees surrounding the houses across the street.

Another man appears to move the discarded cable then disappears out of shot, presumably into the garage directly below and behind the camera. The clip then jumps forward in time. Now we can see that the black SUV is a Tesla Model Y and has been moved out of the way of the garage, and moments later we understand why.

A 992-generation Porsche 911 coupe emerges from the bottom of the frame, backing out into the street. It looks like the owner has sacrificed his EV to save his German sports car (though we don’t know if he came back for the Tesla later).

Any 911 would be worth saving but it really would have been a tragedy if this car had gone up in smoke. It’s a 911 S/T, one of only 1,963 Porsche has committed to build, each featuring the GT3 RS’s 518 hp (525 PS) 4.0-liter engine but mated to a six-speed manual transmission denied RS buyers.

The S/T is still listed on Porsche’s US configurator for $290,000, but with asking prices for some used examples exceeding double that figure, we suspect the guy’s insurance company is more relieved than any of us to see the car make its escape.
