• Suzuki expands the Jimny lineup in Japan with the addition of the five-door Nomade.
  • The Suzuki Jimny Nomade features a longer wheelbase and a more spacious cabin.
  • Unlike the regular Jimny, which is made in Japan, the five-door Nomade is produced in India.

Suzuki has finally brought the 4-door Jimny to Japan, giving it the Nomade moniker. The most practical version of the Jimny was introduced two years ago in India, where it is being manufactured.

According to the automaker, the Jimny Nomade retains the “rough-road driving ability” of the Jimny, while adding “enhanced access and comfortable seats for four adults” thanks to the addition of the extra doors and the extended wheelbase.

The five-door Jimny Nomade measures 3,890 mm (153.1 inches) long, 340 mm (13.4 inches) longer compared to the three-door Jimny Sierra. All of the extra length goes to the longer wheelbase of 2,590 mm (102 inches), translating to more room for the rear passengers. The boot capacity has also been increased, making it more livable.

The front and rear styling is identical to the “short” Jimny Sierra that debuted back in 2018. The only difference is the five-slot grille’s Gun Metallic finish and plated frame. Furthermore, the five-door version benefits from new color options, including the pictured Sizzling Red Metallic and Celestial Blue Pearl Metallic.

The identical overhangs and ground clearance of 210 mm (8.3 inches) mean that the five-door Jimny retains the approach and departure angles of its three-door counterpart (36° and 47° respectively). Only the ramp angle has been slightly compromised to 25° (-3°) due to the longer wheelbase.

Under the hood lies the same, naturally aspirated 1.5-liter petrol engine with 103 hp (77 kW / 105 PS) and 134 Nm (99 lb-ft) of torque. Suzuki offers the option between a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission, always combined with the standard part-time 4WD system.

The Suzuki Jimny Nomade will reach Japanese dealerships starting April 3. The model is priced at ¥2,651,000 ($17,200), or ¥566,500 ($3,700) more expensive compared to the regular Jimny Sierra. As we mentioned earlier, production of the five-door Jimny takes place at the Gurugram plant in India.

Suzuki keeps its cards closed on when the facelifted version of the Jimny will arrive. The company originally planned to roll out a fully electric version of the SUV in Europe, although recent comments from the Suzuki CEO suggested that the project has been scrapped. The big boss has also downplayed rumors about a hybrid version which have been circulating the internet for years.
