• Saleen is thought to have only ever built 78 examples of the mid-engined S7.
  • This S7 LM was recommissioned in 2018, boasting several upgrades over a “regular” S7.
  • It has been driven just 3,688 miles (5,935 km) since it received the LM upgrades.

One of just three Saleen S7 LMs ever built is heading to auction later this month. The S7 is one of just a handful of legitimate supercars to have ever been designed and produced in the United States, and pre-auction estimates indicate it could sell for between $900,000 and $1.1 million.

The Saleen S7 was produced between 2000 and 2007 in road-legal and race car specifications. It’s reported that roughly 78 units were manufactured, each rocking a gorgeous design that looks just as awesome now as it did 25 years ago.

The S7 in question is more special than most. In 2017, Saleen said it would upgrade seven pre-existing S7s to LM specification. However, just three S7s were ultimately recommissioned into LM models, and the transformation of this car was completed in 2018.

To make the LM special, Saleen fitted the 7.0-liter V8 with a pair of new turbochargers that suck in air through the massive roof scoop and a carbon fiber plenum. The upgraded engine delivers between 1,000 to 1,300 hp, depending on fuel and how it was tuned, and 850 lb-ft (1,152 Nm) of torque. A six-speed manual transmission sends all this power to the rear wheels.

Extensive changes have also been made to the aerodynamics. New components include a large rear wing, a rear diffuser, bespoke side skirts, and a new flat underbody. The double-wishbone suspension at all four corners features adjustable coilovers.

The cabin is relatively basic, but that’s not uncommon for a motorsport-inspired supercar. Key features include Sparco seats trimmed in black leather and Alcantara, a reversing camera, air conditioning, and power windows.

RM Sotheby’s is auctioning off this Saleen S7 LM, which is located in Phoenix, Arizona, and says it’s been driven just 3,688 miles (5,935 km) since the LM conversion.
