• The Dodge Charger was used to assist Lockheed U-2 spy planes during takeoff and landing.

  • Powering the muscle sedan is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 producing 370 hp and 395 lb-ft torque.

Looking at photos of this 2015 Dodge Charger, you could be excused for thinking it was just like any of the countless cruisers used by police forces across the United States. But don’t let appearances fool you—this isn’t your average cop car. This particular Charger was used by the U.S. Air Force as a chase car for the legendary Lockheed U-2 spy plane, guiding it during take-offs and landings. Now, it’s up for auction.

The spec of the car is relatively plain, but it does include some cool accessories you won’t find in a normal Charger. For example, it’s fitted with the Base Prep Police package, a performance exhaust, and heavy-duty suspension. The cruiser is also rocking a set of 18-inch wheels, an acoustic windshield, a pair of Harris radios, a spotlight on the A-pillar, and an LED light bar on the roof.

The car is being sold through Cars & Bids, which highlights additional features like an upgraded engine cooling system, an engine hour meter, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. Inside, you’ll find a mix of cloth and vinyl upholstery. But let’s be honest, the real selling point here is its past life guiding U-2 spy planes at Air Force bases. That’s a story any future owner is bound to share (and we can’t say we’d blame them).

Power for this Charger comes from a classic 5.7-liter Hemi V8 paired with a five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. The car is good for 370 hp and 395 lb-ft (535 Nm) of torque, ideal figures for having some fun without going overboard. Adding to the desirability of the car is the fact it’s only been driven 10,500 miles (~16,900 km), despite being a decade old.

Ordinarily, a used 2015 Dodge Charger wouldn’t capture much attention, but this one is an obvious exception. If you’re looking for a new daily or simply a weekend cruiser that’ll turn heads, it might be perfect. You can check out the auction at C/B here.
