• May Mobility has used CES to introduce a new autonomous minibus, which will be launched next year.
  • It’s fully electric and features a swappable battery pack to minimize down time.
  • The bus can transport 30 passengers and reach speeds of up to 45 mph.

Cruise’s robotaxi dreams recently died a high-profile death, but May Mobility isn’t throwing in the towel. Quite the opposite as the Toyota-back firm has unveiled an autonomous minibus.

Created in partnership with Tecnobus, the model accommodates up to 30 passengers and can reach speeds of 45 mph (72 km/h). This makes it ideal for use in cities as well as at airports and corporate campuses.

May Mobility didn’t say much else about the bus, but it has been equipped with an assortment of cameras and sensors. The company also confirmed it will be fully electric and have swappable batteries, which will minimize downtime.

The first buses are expected to be ready in the first half of 2026 and they’ll hit the road later that year. There’s no word on where they’ll be deployed, but the company said the model is homologated for use in Canada and Europe, which will enable them to enter new markets.

May Mobility CEO Edwin Olson said, “Our partnership with Tecnobus shows that we’re serious about expanding transit access and reducing urban congestion. It’s a strong example of how doing the right thing for communities can also be great for growing our business.”

In the meantime, May Mobility is focused on efforts in Ann Arbor and Detroit, Michigan as well as Sun City, Arizona and Martinez, California. The company also has a presence in Arlington, Texas, Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and Miami, Florida. These programs provide free or low-cost service using an autonomous Toyota Sienna.
