- Police in California pulled over a driver allegedly speeding in a Rolls-Royce Ghost.
- Then, they arrested him for driving under the influence and began to search his car.
- Upon doing so they found lots of drugs and a Spider monkey.
Police officers never really know what the day will throw at them. Sure, they can safely bet on a few routine encounters, like pulling over speeders, dealing with drivers under the influence, or occasionally busting someone for narcotics. But every now and then, a traffic stop offers up something truly unexpected. This story somehow managed to involve a speeder, a DUI, a drug bust, and a baby spider monkey. Yes, really.

California Highway Patrol stopped a Rolls-Royce Ghost on December 30 for excessive speed. When the officers caught up with the driver they determined that he was under the influence of something. Of course, they arrested the man and searched his six-figure super saloon only to find enough cannabis to throw a distribution charge his way.
A Spider Monkey Stowaway
All of this is noteworthy, but it’s clear that the spider monkey is the real star of the story. Authorities believe the tiny primate is just about a month old, and the big issue here is that owning primates as pets is illegal in California. As for the driver, who remains unnamed, he’s now sitting in the Madera County Jail, facing charges for speeding, DUI, possession of cannabis for sale, and illegal possession of an exotic animal. That’s quite a catch.
Regarding that exotic animal, authorities took it to the local animal control office where they’ll give it the care it needs and work on finding a home for it. The CHP tagged the Fresno Chaffee Zoo in its post so it’s plausible that the little guy or gal will end up there.

Whatever the monkey’s fate, one thing is very clear. Criminals sometimes do very dumb things. Speeding in a high-profile car while under the influence and while carrying various forms of contraband is a quick way to end up in jail. Just ask the driver of this Rolls-Royce Ghost.
