• Skoda’s three-row electric SUV promises a spacious interior with room for up to seven.
  • The 4.9m long model’s design has been watered-down compared to the Vision 7S concept.
  • Built on the VW Group’s MEB+ platform, the Space will likely share its specs with the ID.7.

Skoda’s next big move in the electric vehicle space is a three-row, seven-seat electric SUV that’s currently being tested in Europe ahead of its expected launch in 2026. Officially called the Skoda ‘Space,’ this vehicle is set to become the electric alternative to the brand’s popular Kodiaq, combining practicality with innovative technology.

Inspired by the Vision 7S concept that was first revealed in 2022, the Space is slated to be a 4.9-meter-long electric SUV boasting avant-garde styling. However, it’s evident that the production model has been vastly tamed down compared to its conceptual forebearer. That said, it hasn’t stopped us from offering a sneak peek at what’s to come. So, let’s take a deeper dive into everything we know about the Skoda Space so far.

Solid Style

The Czech brand’s largest crossover adopts its new ‘Modern Solid’ design language, which debuted on the smaller Skoda Elroq electric SUV and made its way onto the recently facelifted Enyaq. It includes the ‘Tech-Deck Face’, which incorporates a slimline grille panel flanked by thin LED headlights and DRLs.

In line with the concept’s aerodynamic focus, the Space will feature an angled lower front apron and air skirts. Moving to the side, the frameless windows of the concept are gone, replaced with a more traditional-looking boxy glasshouse. To keep things clean and minimalist, the vehicle also features scalloped front and rear haunches, along with flush-mount door handles.

At the rear, the Space will sport thin LED tail lights and a tailgate spoiler with an inward center section, designed to improve aerodynamics and reduce drag.

Clever Yet Classy

The production Skoda Space’s interior will be inspired by the Vision 7S Concept pictured here.

Skoda is well-known for its clever interior packaging and convenience solutions, and the Space is no different with its fabric-lined door pockets and mini trash bins, hidden umbrella storage, and Tardis-like rear cargo capabilities. If you haven’t experienced a modern Skoda, you’re missing out.

We can expect plenty of space for seven passengers across three rows of seats, along with a 14.6-inch touchscreen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, an augmented-reality head-up display and a rectangular two-spoke steering wheel. The second-row center console will feature an integrated child seat.

The Important Bits

Last month, we spied the first prototype of the Skoda Space testing out in the open.

Even though Skoda has yet to reveal technical details for the seven-seat electric SUV, it’s expected to be underpinned by the Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform, which is used for the large VW ID.7 and its Tourer estate sibling. At close to 192.9 inches long, it promises to offer a blend of flexibility and impressive space.

Powertrain-wise, the Space is expected to borrow the ID.7’s setup. For context, the VW ID.7 is equipped with an 86-kWh battery and a 282-horsepower (210 kW) rear motor, offering a WLTP range of up to 709 kilometers (441 miles) on a full charge, though VW managed to stretch it to 941 km (585 miles) in a recent efficiency test. Both rear- and all-wheel-drive versions will be available.

Rivals and Reveal

The Space will face some stiff competition in the electric SUV market. Key competitors include the Hyundai Ioniq 9, Kia’s mechanically similar EV9, Tesla Model Y, Volvo EX90Peugeot e-5008, Mercedes-Benz EQB and Honda Prologue. It’s a crowded field, but if Skoda can deliver on its promises, the Space could carve out a solid spot in the growing EV market.
