  • The model has a two-tone exterior, unique trim, and a custom center armrest.

BMW is celebrating Japanese craftsmanship with the new X7 Nishiki Lounge concept. It’s the latest in a series of modified vehicles and it embraces the idea of a “relaxing space filled with beauty, where the stars sparkle.”

While that’s clearly visible inside, the exterior has a BMW Individual Velvet Blue body that contrasts with a Space Silver upper section, which is supposed to represent the “sparkle of nebulae shining in space.” They’re joined by Crystal Light headlights and an Iconic Glow grille.

Bigger changes occur inside where there’s custom foil trim by Rakugei Kobo. It looks like a starry night sky and was created via a special process that sees lacquer used as an adhesive. The lacquer is also used in varying amounts and this changes the “shine and color of the foil.”

The eye-catching center console sports kuska fabric and a foil effect, which is designed to recall sparkling stars. It also gently tapers as the thickness of the leather goes from 4 mm to 2 mm.

Last but not least, there are special floor mats created by textile manufacturer Kawashima Selkon. They depict the universe and were created using an “ikat dyeing” process.

Aside from the special touches, the X7 Nishiki Lounge concept has been equipped with a Panoramic Sky Roof that features 15,000 LED accent lights. The model also has a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System and crafted crystal flourishes.

BMW didn’t mention performance specifications, but the concept appears to be based on the X7 xDrive40d. This means the crossover is likely powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine producing 347 hp (259 kW / 352 PS) and 531 lb-ft (720 Nm) of torque. It enables the standard model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 5.9 seconds.
