- Someone bought this 1989 Blazer when new and almost immediately put it in storage.
- Today, it still has the original plastic wraps on the seats and its window sticker intact.
- It also features rare options, including a removable top and motorized tailgate window.
Let’s be real: cars don’t exactly tend to increase in value over time, at least, not most of them and certainly not mainstream models. But that doesn’t stop some hopeful folks from hoarding semi-everyday vehicles with the expectation that one day, they’ll strike it rich. In most cases, that’s a pipe dream.
But in this one, well, maybe not. Here we have a practically brand-new 1989 Chevrolet K5 Blazer, complete with all the bells and whistles you wouldn’t normally expect from a vehicle that’s about to hit its 35th birthday.
Low Miles and High Spec
Chevrolet fans who hoped the new Blazer would be a rough-and-tumble modernized version of the K5 might want to check this out. It has just 21 miles on the odometer and comes with just about every option one might desire. That includes a 5.7-liter V8 engine, a four-speed automatic with overdrive, and of course, four-wheel drive.

This K5 doesn’t skimp on luxury features, either. We’re talking a removable top (who doesn’t want the wind in their hair and dirt in their lungs?), cruise control, power windows, air conditioning, power door locks, tinted windows, and even a motorized tailgate window.
And just in case you’re wondering: yes, all of these features still work, and they’re in surprisingly good shape. In fact, it looks like this Blazer has been kept in a vacuum-sealed bubble. The engine bay and cabin are so pristine, you could probably eat off them, though we wouldn’t recommend it.
As if the low mileage wasn’t enough of a time capsule, the seats still have the original plastic wrapping on them from Chevrolet. In case you weren’t convinced, the plastic even has the “Dealer Must Remove” sticker still on it. Apparently, Ron Gunnoe Chevrolet of Mount Vernon, Ohio had one job, and that job was not to leave the plastic on. He really dropped the ball on that one..

Those interested can view the auction here and bid on it at Mecum’s 2025 Glendale event on March 21. Given how rare these SUVs are, it’s hard to say what this example will go for. Notably, this same car was on sale back in January of 2023 where it appeared to be a genuine barn find. At the time it had only 18 miles on the odometer and sold for $125,000.
For a time after that, it was for sale through Volocars for $149,998 and had 21 miles on the clock. At some point, it was auctioned through Barrett Jackson in 2024 with the same mileage. What we can be sure of is that indeed it will change hands as the auction has no reserve price.
