- The Corvette ZR1 begins production later this year with five new lap records under its belt.
- They were set at Watkins Glen, Road America, Road Atlanta, and Virginia International Raceway.
- Four different drivers were used to set the records, with dashcam footage released for all.
The Chevrolet C8 Corvette ZR1 isn’t even available at dealerships yet, but it’s already rewriting the record books. This 1,064-horsepower American supercar has now shattered five track records, proving that its performance isn’t just marketing hype—it’s the real deal. And if you weren’t already convinced, the dashcam footage from these record-setting laps will leave no doubt.
General Motors didn’t break down when it set these lap times, but we’ll go in the order it mentioned starting with Watkins Glen. Specifically, the ZR1 set the record on the Long Course there with a time of 1:52.7 and Bill Wise behind the wheel. He’s the lead performance engineer on the ZR1 and clearly knows the car well.

Next up, Road America, where Brian Wallace piloted the ZR1 to a blistering 2:08.6 lap time. That’s more than five full seconds faster than the previous record, held by a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. If the folks in Germany weren’t already concerned about the ZR-1 that’ll likely do the trick.
At Road Atlanta, the ZR1 kicked another Porsche, the 911 GT2 RS off of the top rung with a 1:22.8-second lap. That’s exactly two seconds faster than the Porsche did it in 2019. Chris Barber, the lead development engineer on the project was behind the wheel there which will come into play shortly.
Finally, the Chevrolet team set two more records at Virginia International Raceway on both the Full Course and the Grand Course. On the former, it managed a 1:47.7 lap time. According to FastestLaps.com that’s almost 10 seconds quicker than the second-fastest time, set in a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 of 1:56.30.
Then, the ZR1 went on to smash the McLaren Senna’s lap record on the Grand Course with a time of 2:32.3. Both records at VIR came at the hands of Aaron Link meaning that these five records were set by four different drivers. If that doesn’t demonstrate how versatile the ZR1 is, little else can.
Notably, the ZR1 in question is a pre-production model fitted with the ZTK package that includes several carbon fiber aero parts like a rear wing, a Gurney lip, and dive planes. It also leverages Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R ZP tires. Production for the flagship Chevy sports car begins later this year and dealers will begin to take orders later this month.
