- The complete gated shifter kit costs $549 and takes just 1-2 hours to install.
- Minottek is also in the final stages of developing a gated shifter for the NB Miata.
The Mazda MX-5 is one of the finest sports cars ever developed and in an era where lightweight, rear-wheel drive cars are becoming increasingly rare, the Miata has already become an icon. Now, a US-based company has made the NA Miata even better, creating a gated shifter to match its characteristic shift quality.
The kit has been designed by Minottek to seamlessly integrate into the original MX-5 center console. Not only does it look the part but the kit is made out of premium materials to make it feel as OEM as possible. These include a stainless steel gated shifter shaft and an aluminum transmission turret mount.

Gated shifters were perfected by Italian supercar makers decades ago, but as demand for manual sports cars dropped, gated shifters have become obsolete. The great thing about this kit is that it includes every piece needed for the installation and should only take 1-2 hours to fit.
What’s perhaps most impressive about Minottek’s kit is that it does not look like a cheap and tacky aftermarket add-on. According to Minottek, more than 200 hours have been spent developing the gated shifter.
Unsurprisingly, the shifter kit isn’t cheap, costing $549.95 in the US. However, that’s not too bad when you consider how much pleasure it’ll give drivers during driving.
If you don’t own an NA-generation Miata but think this gated shifter kit is for you, fear not. The small company is already developing a gated shifter for the NB Miata, and they even have plans for an ND kit too.
