• New F-Series trucks include a free one-year subscription to the Ford Security Package.
  • After the initial subscription ends, owners will need to cough up $7.99 per month.
  • The ignition can be remotely disabled through the FordPass app, helping to reduce thefts.

Ford wants to build more secure vehicles and is now fitting the ever-popular F-Series trucks with the monthly Ford Security Package that’ll pay out owners up to $2,500 if their truck gets stolen.

While you might think that handing out $2,500 checks to F-Series owners whenever their vehicle gets stolen sounds like a scheme open to fraud, it’s a little more complex than that. For vehicles equipped with the Ford Security Package, Ford will reimburse owners for insurance deductibles of up to $2,500 if it’s stolen, but the reimbursement will be credited only if the vehicle is not recovered or recovered with damage.

The package has been introduced across the F-150 model range, as well as select Super Duty trims. Eligible models come with a one-year free subscription to the Ford Security Package. After that, it reverts to a $7.99 per month subscription.

It’s not just the promise of being reimbursed for an insurance deductible that could entice shoppers. The program includes theft and tampering notifications sent to the owner’s phone, and a new feature known as Start Inhibit. This function is found within the FordPass app and allows the owner to remotely disable the ignition, even if a thief has access to the key. The package also has a 24/7 hotline where agents can work alongside law enforcement to track down stolen vehicles.

“Thieves are using increasingly sophisticated methods to steal vehicles, and it’s important that our system simultaneously introduces physical, electronic and communication-based barriers to a thief’s success,” Ford’s general manager of Safety and Security Services, Christian Moran told the Detroit Free Press. “And if the worst happens to your vehicle, we’ll be there with insurance deductible reimbursement to make it right.”

Ford’s suite of safety systems will be offered in more models in the future, although it’s unclear exactly when.
