Automotive history is packed with ambitious dreamers who set out to build their own car companies—some with grand visions, others with more optimism than sense. In the 1960s, Swiss racing driver Peter Monteverdi took his shot, and while his company lasted just 15 years, it left behind some truly fascinating machines.
One of the most striking was the Monteverdi High Speed 375 L, a sexy grand tourer produced in multiple configurations, including this elegant 2+2 model. This particular example, now up for auction in Switzerland, spent years on display at the Monteverdi Museum in Basel before being released in 2016.

Looking a bit like a cross between a Lamborghini Espada and the original V8 Vantage from Aston Martin, the High Speed 375 L has a long hood, a relatively short front overhang, and a large overhang at the rear. This car was repainted in a lovely shade of green by a previous owner and sits on 15-inch magnesium wheels. We think it looks magnificent and it remains just as much of a showstopper now as it was when it was new.
A peek inside the cabin shows tan leather across the seats, door panels, and transmission tunnel. A classic wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel and air conditioning add to the period-correct luxury.
Power comes courtesy of a 440 cubic-inch Chrysler Magnum V8. This engine was good for 375 hp and 480 lb-ft (651 Nm) back in the day and sends its power through a three-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential to the rear wheels. According to the listing, the car has covered approximately 72,000 km (~45,000 miles) since new, with an engine service completed just last year.
