• Police took down a wild highway takeover featuring over 25 supercars causing chaos.
  • They observed at least two of the cars racing, arrested two people, and cited a third.
  • Two exotic cars were impounded, including a Porsche 911 GT3 and a Ferrari SF90.

The Florida Highway Patrol says that it caught not one, not two, but over 25 supercars taking over a highway on Saturday. The incident happened near the 51-mile marker of Interstate 75, known as Alligator Alley. The sports cars stopped traffic, did donuts, and even had a helicopter filming according to police. Now, at least two of those vehicles are in an impound lot and three people are in jail.

FHP says that five dark SUVs blocked the entire highway while occupants got out to film the 25+ supercars behind them. Individual vehicles from the group would move to the front, do some donuts, and then move away. Officers say that one of those vehicles was a bright green Porsche 911 GT3. They located the car and someone who claimed to be the occupant impounded the car and arrested that passenger.

In the process of responding to the incident, the authorities also saw a blue Porsche 911 make an illegal U-turn at mile marker 65. When they pulled over the driver it turned out that the car wasn’t even registered. The driver, identified by a local news organization as Rashed Fathi Rashed, received a misdemeanor and authorities impounded the car.

Finally, about ten minutes later, officers saw a Ferrari SF90 allegedly in the midst of a street race. They say they clocked this Italian stallion going 148 mph (238 km/h) in a 70 mph (113 mph) zone. It also happened to have no license plate. Once officers caught up with the car they arrested the driver, Andrew Mumtaz Tadras and again impounded the car.

It’s unclear if authorities cited any of the other participants or if they gathered information about how this event was organized. At the very least, three people will have to deal with the consequences of their actions. Maybe they’ll remember to avoid blocking an entire highway if they don’t want this much heat next time.
