• Arkansas police pull over a Dodge Charger for speeding, initiating a routine traffic stop.
  • The driver hands over his information, including a license, then speeds away unexpectedly.
  • Caught after fleeing, the driver attempts to hide evidence, only to make it more obvious.

Police never know what they’re going to run into at work but they likely don’t expect what happened on this occasion. An officer in Arkansas pulled over a driver suspected of speeding and everything seemed normal. The driver pulled over appropriately, handed over his information, and spoke politely with the trooper. Then, everything went wonky.

According to the video description, which is purported to be the officer’s narrative, Trooper Dylan Evans clocked a Dodge Charger going 83 mph (133 km/h) in a 65 mph (105 km/h) zone. He initiated a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over almost immediately. Upon contacting the driver, Trooper Evans obtained his license but, during the exchange, believed he smelled marijuana. He then asked the driver to turn off the car and step to the back of the Dodge.

Initially, the driver complied. He turned off the car, and the officer stepped to the rear. Then, without warning, the driver restarted the car and sped off. Over the next two minutes, Trooper Evans and another Arkansas State Trooper, Wright, caught up to him.

To catch up, the pair reached speeds of over 140 mph (225 km/h) at times. At one point, Trooper Wright pulled alongside the Charger and executed a PIT maneuver to disable the Dodge. The car spun a few times, and while the driver tried to regain control, the officers had him boxed in by then.

Unable to go anywhere, video footage shows the Charger driver seemingly attempting to toss a small clear plastic bag over the highway railing. Instead of making a clean getaway, the bag landed squarely in view of both officers and the dashcam on Trooper Wright’s police car, which, by this point, was very well-lit.

The bag was reportedly packed with 90 grams of marijuana, and the officers found even more drugs, along with a digital scale, in the car. In case you were wondering, the driver now faces an impressive lineup of charges: speeding, driving without insurance, reckless driving, fleeing, and, of course, possession of drugs. A day that started with a simple speeding ticket ended with a lot more than anyone expected.
