- Toyota’s Z Urbano adds a host of black accents to the Yaris and Yaris Cross models.
- The special editions also feature unique badging on the fenders and inside the cabin.
- The new flagship trims are available with gasoline and hybrid powertrain options.
Toyota has decided to spice up the Yaris and Yaris Cross in Japan with a new special edition that goes by the name Z Urbano. The name might sound like it belongs on a cheap cologne or a failed late-night reality show, but it’s actually an upgrade—sort of. These models take the high-spec Z trim and add black accents and a few nifty logos to make the Yaris lineup just a little more “premium.”
Both models feature black finishes on the Toyota emblem, mirrors, door handles, rear spoiler, and roof. So if you’ve ever thought, “You know what this car needs? More black plastic!”, then this special edition is for you. The Yaris Z Urbano rolls on 16-inch wheels, but the Yaris Cross Z Urbano steps it up with a set of 18-inch wheels finished in gloss black. Yes, gloss black. Because matte black was so last season.

The Japanese models also feature the “Urbano” logo on the front fenders, which is the Italian word for urban. Inside, occupants are greeted by Urbano-specific puddle lights, scuff plates, floor mats, and a steering wheel.
The special editions are based on the Z trim of the Yaris and the Yaris Cross respectively, which already features plenty of standard equipment. However, they are only available in Platinum White Pearl Mica and Massive Gray shades, combined with Black Mica roof and pillars.

If you were hoping for some groundbreaking changes under the hood, don’t hold your breath. The Z Urbano editions don’t bring any power or handling upgrades to the table. You still get a 1.5-liter gasoline engine or a hybrid 1.5-liter option. Both powertrains can be paired with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the whole package is tied together with a CVT automatic transmission.
Pricing and Availability
Japanese customers don’t have access to the Yaris GR Sport which is available in Europe. This means that the Z Urbano is the most expensive Yaris trim, excluding the rally-bred GR Yaris. However, in the case of the Yaris Cross, the Z Urbano is a tad cheaper than the rugged Adventure which retains its position at the top of the range.
The Toyota Yaris Urbano is priced between ¥2,347,400 and ¥2,887,500 ($15,700 to $19,300), while the Yaris Cross Urbano ranges from ¥2,623,500 to ¥3,228,500 ($17,500 to $21,500). These special editions are already available to order in Japan, as part of the refreshed 2025 model year lineup for both the Yaris and Yaris Cross.
