Volkswagen introduced the redesigned Tiguan last fall and now the company has announced pricing will begin at $29,495 before a $1,425 destination fee. That’s an increase of $615, but customers will be rewarded with a significantly improved crossover.
Kicking things off is the entry-level Tiguan S, which features a more expressive design as well as LED lighting units and 17-inch alloy wheels. They’re joined by body-color side mirrors, silver anodized roof rails, and a slightly longer wheelbase.

The interior has been given a minimalist makeover and drivers sit behind a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, where they gaze upon a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment system. Other highlights include a wireless smartphone charger, a seven-speaker audio system, and a dual-zone automatic climate control system.
Cloth seats come standard as do four 45-watt USB-C fast chargers. Volkswagen also noted the shifter has been moved to the steering column, which helps to create an open and airy cabin.
The IQ.Drive suite of assistance systems comes standard and includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Travel Assist, Front Assist, and an Active Blind Spot Monitor. They’re joined by Light Assist, Lane Assist, Emergency Assist, Rear Traffic Alert, Park Distance Control, and Exit Warning. Buyers will also find four new airbags and keyless entry.
Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS). That’s an increase of 17 hp (13 kW / 17 PS) and Volkswagen noted the latest model should be more efficient thanks to a weight reduction of around 170 lbs (77 kg). The company has been keeping additional details under wraps, but front-wheel drive comes standard while all-wheel drive is a $1,500 option.

Moving up the trim ladder is the $32,995 Tiguan SE, which features a lightly revised exterior with a power liftgate and larger 19-inch wheels. The model also has remote start and a windshield wiper heater.
Bigger changes occur inside as customers will find perforated leatherette front seats with eight-way power adjustment on the driver’s side. They’re joined by an auto-dimming rearview mirror, front footwell lighting, and a ten-color ambient lighting system.
Volkswagen also mentioned a new Atmospheres feature, which synchronizes the ambient lighting and audio settings for a “harmonious blend of sight and sound.” While it conjures up images of a bad night club, the system offers up to five presets as well as a customizable mode.
Shoppers looking for something sportier can opt for the $35,455 SE R-Line Black. It’s distinguished by R-Line bumpers, black mirror caps, and 20-inch black wheels. Buyers will also find black roof rails, black side sill accents, and illuminated door handles.
Interior changes are more modest, but the cabin comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof, a perforated sport steering wheel, and a black headliner. They’re joined by stainless steel pedals, a head-up display, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror, and scuff plates with the R-Line logo.
Sitting at the top of the range is the $39,755 SEL R-Line, which comes standard with all-wheel drive. It keeps the R-Line aesthetic, but drops the black accents as there are silver roof rails and silver 20-inch wheels. The model also has illuminated VW logos, a sound insulating windshield, a liftgate kick sensor, and mirror-mounted puddle lights that project the Volkswagen emblem onto the ground.
The biggest upgrades occur inside as there’s heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats wrapped in premium Varenna leather. They’re joined by a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg as the range-topper sports genuine American walnut wood trim as well as back-lit decor on the dash and front doors. Customers will also find a larger 15-inch infotainment system, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, and a tri-zone climate control system. Rounding out the highlights are a fancier center console, a 30-color ambient lighting system, and Park Assist Plus.
