- Hyundai’s February sales reached 62,032, marking a 3% increase over last year’s figures.
- Kia outperformed Hyundai, with 63,303 units sold in February, setting a new sales record.
- The Tucson remains Hyundai’s best-seller, while its Sportage sibling led Kia’s February sales.
In a month where both Hyundai and Kia celebrated their best Februarys on record, some models are clearly basking in the spotlight, while others, well, not so much. The U.S. market has seen strong sales for both brands in 2025, but as usual, the performance is far from uniform. Hyundai’s Elantra and Sonata are absolutely crushing it, while the Kona and Santa Cruz are struggling to keep up.
Hyundai’s Solid February Performance
Hyundai sold 62,032 vehicles in February 2025, marking a 3% increase compared to the 60,341 units moved in the same month last year. The company is also up 8% year-to-date, with a total of 116,535 vehicles sold so far. For context, February was Hyundai’s best-ever February in the U.S. and its fifth consecutive month of record-breaking sales. But let’s dig into the details.

The Tucson remained the brand’s best-selling model, with 16,317 units, a 2% increase over February last year. Sales of the Elantra jumped by a significant 21% from 8,432 last year to 10,163 last month, and are up 24% year-to-date. Similarly, Sonata sales have increased 22% from 4,379 to 5,334 and have jumped 35% year-to-date from 7,500 to 10,091. Ioniq 5 sales have also risen 22% from 1,996 to 2,442 in February.
Kona and Santa Cruz Take a Dip
For some of Hyundai’s other models, things aren’t quite as rosy. The Kona, for example, saw a 20% dip in sales, dropping to 5,629 units, while the Santa Cruz pickup suffered a hefty 25% drop, with just 1,938 units sold. So, while the brand is doing well overall, it’s clear some models are struggling to maintain momentum.

Kia’s Best February Yet
Not to be outdone, Kia had an even better February than Hyundai. With 63,303 units sold, the brand saw an increase from 59,059 units in February 2024. Year-to-date, Kia has sold 120,310 vehicles, up from 110,149 at the same point last year.
Leading the pack for Kia is the Sportage, with 13,072 units in February compared to the 12,081 sold in February 2024. Sales of the old Kia Forte and the new K4 topped 11,669, a small rise from the 11,229 of last February, while sales of the Telluride also swelled from 8,510 to 9,599.
While things are looking good overall, not all models are thriving. The EV6 saw a slight sales dip, dropping from 1,309 units last year to 1,275. Meanwhile, the Niro also took a hit, with sales down 41% to 1,485 units. The Seltos, too, was down 22%, with sales falling from 4,766 to 3,707 units.
