• The rider may not have noticed that traffic was slowing and couldn’t brake in time.
  • Local police were contacted by the biker after the pickup driver pulled off the freeway.
  • Fortunately, despite the very heavy impact, he avoided any serious injuries.

A motorcyclist in Irwindale, California, has been lucky to escape a terrifying crash with a pickup truck on the 210 Freeway after they slammed into the rear of a pickup truck. Had things gone a little differently, the biker could have been seriously injured – or worse. So, what exactly happened?

Footage from the accident shows the rider of the blue sports bike slamming into the rear of the pickup, which appears to have slowed because of traffic on the road. Oftentimes, collisions between motorcyclists and car drivers are caused by mistakes made by both parties, but in this one, it’s clear which side the blame lies on.

As the biker hits the rear of the truck, he flies into its bed – which, while weird, was the best possible outcome for him. The driver appears blissfully unaware of the impact and continues to drive down the freeway, with the biker out in the back. According to ABC7, the driver eventually pulled off the freeway and the biker was able to get in contact with the California Highway Patrol.

Unsurprisingly, the motorbike appears to have been completely destroyed in the impact. Parts of it can be seen strewn across the road after the impact, and it appears the front end has been completely crumpled.

It’s hard to say what caused the biker to hit the truck, but it’s possible they simply didn’t notice that traffic was starting to slow. Fortunately, he escaped the crash without any serious injuries, and local police were able to remove the motorbike from the center of the freeway.
