• Loder1899 has introduced a rugged Mustang concept inspired by a car in The Thomas Crown Affair.
  • The open top model features a lifted suspension, meaty tires, and a roll bar lined with auxiliary lights.
  • The pony car could go into limited production if the company sees an enthusiastic response.

Off-road inspired models have been a hit with consumers and we’re not just talking about trucks and SUVs. Quite the opposite as there’s been a handful of rugged sports cars in recent years including the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato.

German aftermarket outfit Loder1899 is now proposing another one in the form of a modified Shelby GT350. Inspired by a car featured in The Thomas Crown Affair remake, the concept sports an increased ride height and unique wheels wrapped in meaty BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. They’re joined by rounded fender flares and auxiliary lights.

The open top pony car also sports Recaro seats, a roll bar, and a unique rear deck lid. The latter houses a spare tire, which is held in place by leather straps.

While the car is technically a concept, Top Gear quotes Maximilian Loder as saying “We are confident that this concept vehicle will excite enthusiasts. If the response is positive, we will bring it into production.”

While Loder didn’t mention performance specifications, the 2025 Shelby GT350 has a familiar 5.0-liter V8 engine producing 480 hp (358 kW / 487 PS). However, customers can add a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger that increases the output to 810 hp (604 kW / 821 PS). The mill can be paired to automatic and manual transmissions, and production is limited to 526 units. Pricing for the supercharged variant starts at $109,999 including the cost of the car.

Of course, for production, it’s possible Loder could base the model on the Mustang Dark Horse. If that happens, customers could find a 5.0-liter V8 pumping out 500 hp (373 kW / 507 PS) and 418 lb-ft (566 Nm) of torque.
