- The Mitsubishi Xpander HEV Play is a limited edition of the minivan for the Thai market.
- The Play is available for the Xpander and the Xpander Cross, albeit with different looks.
- The models don’t feature any power or chassis upgrades over the standard Xpander HEV.
Mitsubishi has introduced a new limited-edition version of the Xpander minivan in Thailand, giving it a sportier look while keeping the familiar hybrid setup. The Xpander HEV Play features a unique body kit with black accents, though it doesn’t come with any mechanical upgrades.
First launched in 2017 and refreshed in 2022, the Xpander has been around for a while. This new limited edition serves as a way to catch the eye of potential buyers, adding what Mitsubishi calls “sport premium accents.”

Up front, the redesigned bumper extension, larger intakes, and integrated splitter hint at something sportier—perhaps an Xpander EVO, if Mitsubishi ever felt bold enough to build one. The grille and Dynamic Shield design are finished in black, complementing the darkened split LED headlights.
The three-row minivan rides on black alloy wheels that, while stylish, still look undersized for the vehicle’s proportions. At the rear, Mitsubishi has added a black diffuser trim, a sizable spoiler, and clear-lens taillights. As with the standard Xpander HEV, the exhaust remains neatly tucked away beneath the bumper.

For those wanting a slightly different look, the limited edition is also available for the Xpander Cross. This variant leans more rugged than sporty but still gets plenty of blacked-out trim, matching wheels, and darker lighting elements.

Color choices are limited to White Diamond and Graphite Gray for the standard Xpander, with an additional Green Bronze option for the Xpander Cross.
Same Hybrid Powertrain, Slightly Higher Price
Despite the aggressive styling, the Play edition sticks with the standard hybrid powertrain. That means a 1.6-liter engine paired with a single electric motor, producing a combined 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS). That’s a modest improvement over the gas-only Xpander, which delivers 103 hp (77 kW / 105 PS). Power is sent to the front wheels through an eCVT automatic transmission.
Both the Xpander HEV Play and the Xpander Cross Play are already available to order in Thailand, priced identically at ฿981,000 ($29,000). That’s a ฿48,000 ($1,400) premium over the base Xpander HEV—essentially the price of a limited edition badge and a few styling tweaks.
